1º. Goals

– Highlight the work of the Directors of Photography in the creation of solid and moving films for the audience.

– Communicate the importance of the Director of Photography as a technician, an author and a communicator.

– Encourage the development of new talents among the young Directors of Photography

 

2º . Celebration

The ADF Festival, co produced with Lumiton, will take place from the 4th to the 9th of September in Vicente López City and Buenos Aires City.

3º. Participants

-The submission of the film has to be done by the Director of Photography himself. The  assignment cannot be delegated to the producer, director or any other member of the crew.

-The submission belongs exclusively to the Directors of Photography.

– The film can only be submitted to one of the categories of the festival.

– The Festival´s pre-selection committee, reserves the right to programme the film in another competitive or non-competitive section.

– The associates of ADF are allowed to participate in all the categories.

– The participants must be over 18 years-old.

 

4º . Programming team and Jury

– The pre-selection and selection will be made by a selected committee integrated by three outstanding members of the ADF designated by the ADF Commission Directive

– The Jury will be designated by the ADF Commission Directive.

– The Jury will highlight the visual imprint, the photographic values, mood, the aesthetic and technical innovation and the search of the ultimate image that accompanies and enriches the cinematographic story.

5º . Submission categories & eligibility requirements:

The Festival has two competitive categories:

1) International competition of feature length film (fiction)

– A feature length motion picture is eligible if it was produced after the 1st of January, 2016.  The film can be produced in Argentina or any part of the world.

-If the film is not in spanish, it must include spanish subtitles in the copy sent for projection. If not, the organization reserves the right to remove the film from the programme.

The jury will grant the following award (it can not stay vacant):

-Best photography of the International Competition of feature length film.

The ADF Commission Directive and the Jury, reserve the right to grant special mentions and acknowledgements.  

2) International competition of short films

-The short film may be fiction, documentary, video-art, video clip so long as it has 25 minutes of duration (including credits and titles). It can be from any part of the world, including Argentina. They must have been produced after January 1st, 2016.

-If the film is not in spanish, it must include spanish subtitles in the copy sent for projection. If not, the organization reserves the right to remove the film from the programme.

The jury will grant the following award (it can not stay vacant):

-Best photography of the International competition of short film.

The ADF Commission Directive and the Jury, reserve the right to grant special mentions and acknowledgements.

6º. Non competitive section

The festival will have a non competitive section

My first film: with the end of promoting and encouraging new generations, the Festival opens a new section of fiction films which has to be the first film (debuted or not) as Director of Photography of the participant. Those Directors of Photography who already have a second film at the day of the convocatory, can not submit their film. However, those whose second film is a debuted documentary as a Director of Photography before the date are not excluded from participating.

– The films received must be produced after the January 1st, 2016.

 

7º.  Submission

For submitting your film, follow the proceeding instructions:

-For submitting a film for the International competition of feature length film (fiction), complete the following registration form here. The registration closes at 24hs of the 20º of May, 2018.

– For submitting a film for the  International competition of short films, complete the following registration form hereThe registration closes at 24hs of the 7º of May, 2018.

– For submitting a feature fiction length film for “My first film” complete the following registration form here. The registration closes at 24hs of the 20º of May, 2018.

8º Eligibility requirements and shipping conditions of the film.

The submitted films for participation, must comply the following rules:

  • In order to participate, the Director of Photography must state to have permission of those who posses legal control over the film.
  • In the competitive categories, can participate only one film for Director of Photography.  
  • The films must be produced after the January 1st, 2016
  • Applicants submitting projects that contain significant non-Spanish spoken dialogue must provide on-screen Spanish subtitles. The Festival reserves the right to disqualify any Project that contains significant non-Spanish spoken dialogue that does not include accompanying onscreen Spanish subtitles.
  • Copyright owner(s) will grant the Exhibition rights of the film for future possible proyections with non-profit business goals and objectives for the term of a year.

 

9º Competencia y especificaciones técnicas:

  • The participant must take care of all the shipping charges. The ADF will not pay fee for exhibiting  the film.
  • Inscription to the festival is free.
  • The participants whose films turns out to be preselectioned, must deliver personally or by post office (within 10 business days after it was duly notified via e-mail), the copy of the film for exhibition that will be used for projecting during the Festival and all the  promotional material required to the address specified in the following item.

 

10°: Technical specifications of the material ( copyright and shipping )

  • The submission of the film for pre-selection consideration,  must be uploaded through a Vimeo Link. Follow suggestions for compression in the following link:  https://vimeo.com/help/compression
  • The material for pre-selection consideration must be in HD format (1920×1080) or superior. The registration form must be completed with the  specification of the device used and the aspect ratio. Exceptions may be considered if the participant presents material in an alternative format and it was grounded for aesthetics or narrative purposes.  The preselection committee will evaluate the inclusion or not of the material in the competitive section or screenings.
  • The selected material for competition or screening must be sent for projection in one of the following format and specifications:

The DCP must be compatible with the norms DCI-SMPTE

(JPEG 2000 – Colour Space: XYZ – Máximum Bit Rate: 250Mbps)

  • The contact information provided by the participant in the registration form, will be the only one considered by the organization when communication is needed.
  • The participant will be notified by e-mail that the film was pre-selected. Once the copy for projection is received, the films will be evaluated one more time (from a technical point of view for the projection in the movie theatre) for the final selection of the competition and screening. The organization reserves the right to exclude the film from the programme if they are beneath the quality standard for projection.
  • Shipping information address:  Av. Scalabrini Ortiz 764, 2do Piso (second floor), CABA 1414, Buenos Aires, Argentina.  Monday to Friday between 10 and 14 hs.
  • The pre-selected films that are not delivered in time, will automatically be disqualified. Materials sent with postmark from the post office with date within the convocatary, will be accepted.
  • The organization reserves the right to disqualify those films that do not obey with the requirements specified in article Nº10 of the present rules.

 

Participants must send with the copy for exhibition the following promotional material:

  • Synopsis (between 400 and 500 characters – whitespace included)  
  • Director of Photography´s motivation letter (between 400 and 500 characters – whitespace included)
  • Full artistic and technical credits, including full name of the Director of Photography and the complete photography and camera crew.
  • Format and aspect ratio.
  • Biography of the Director of Photography (between 400 and 500 characters – whitespace included)
  • Photo of the Director of Photography (2 Megas máx)
  • 3 film stills (Digital format, 2 Megas max).
  • Video selfie of one minute  long in which the Director of Photography presents his work answering the following questions: How did you design the photography of the film? What did you find challenging? In which way do you think the image stands out?  
  • This material will be used for issuing a catalogue, the official web site, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Blog, press, TV, radio, internet for promotional use of the Festival.  

The film programming and the screening days, times, order and movie theatre are decided by the Festival Organizers. Once the film is selected, it can not be withdrawn.

11°.  Return of Screening Copies.

  • The organization will not return the screening copies through mail.
  • Material must be retired by the participants or their representative by Av. S. Ortiz 764, 2do. floor, from Monday to Friday between 10 to 14hs, as from September 24th, 2018.

According to the amount of material received, the Festival reserves the right to modify the competitive and non- competitive sections for a better organization and screening schedule.

13º Final article

Participation in the Festival entails the acceptance of the present Rules. In the event of any conflict not covered in these regulations, it will be resolved by the ADF Directive Commission.
